Did a fatal security lapse contribute to the tragic death of this young man?

Local News

A shooting outside Astro’s nightclub reportedly claimed the life of 28-year-old Kent Wemberly Jr. Sunday morning, October 8, 2017.

According to WALB, Mr. Wimberly “may have been trying to break up a fight when he was shot and killed…outside Astro’s nightclub.” There were apparently “up to 100 people inside and outside of the club” at the time of the shooting. Family members are now urging potential witnesses to come forward and give them the “peace and closure” they deserve, per WALB reports.

Our Legal Take

Bar and parking lot patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the property and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What parking lot security measures, such as bright lighting, security patrols and surveillance cameras, were in place at the time of the shooting?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the property or parking lot owners failed to provide adequate security, the family of Kent Wimberly Jr. may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for his wrongful death.

Based upon its long, extensive, and successful experience in handling negligent security cases against property owners in the State of Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed.

Could These East Point Apartment Crimes Have Been Prevented?

Local News

City officials are reportedly cracking down on an East Point apartment complex, deemed a “nuisance” six months ago.

According to WSB-TV 2, a judge has ordered the “Brookfield apartment complex” to “pay for officers’ time after police said they’re answering too many calls on the property.” The property has apparently “turned into a haven for crime over the last few years.” Per the news report, “police answer about 25 crime calls per month,” including homicides, burglaries, car break-ins, and shots fired.
