A shooting outside the Hidden Lake apartment complex in Union City reportedly claimed the life of one man and left another injured Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

According to 11 Alive News, the shooting occurred “at the Hidden Lake Apartments on Morgan Road, just off of I-85 and Jonesboro Road.” Responding officers discovered one victim had crashed an SUV in the apartment complex parking lot after being struck by gunfire. That victim succumbed to fatal injuries.

A second victim was reportedly transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. It is unclear whether he was also an occupant of the SUV. His condition has not been released.

Our Legal Take

Apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the apartment complex and whether this tragic loss of life may have been prevented.

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security, the family of the victim may elect to seek justice and pursue a legal claim for his wrongful death. Additionally, the other victim of this shooting may elect to pursue legal claims for his injuries.

Based upon its long, extensive, and successful experience in handling negligent security cases against property owners in the State of Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed.
