Negligent Security? Our Legal Take: Man Shot in Lithonia Restaurant Robbery

Did negligent security contribute to this restaurant shooting? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a legal avenue for justice and a claim for compensation.

Local News

A man was reportedly shot in the parking lot of a Krystal restaurant in Lithonia Sunday, July 17, 2016.

According to WSBTV 2 News, “[m]ore than half a dozen DeKalb County police cruisers swarmed Krystal’s parking lot on Evans Mill Road Sunday evening.”

“Channel 2 Action News has confirmed with police that one person was shot right in front of the main entrance and the motive was robbery.”

Police have not yet identified the victim or a suspect in the attack.

Our Legal Take

Restaurant patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the restaurant and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What security measures, such as bright lighting, surveillance cameras, and security patrols, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
  • Was the restaurant owner aware of any prior criminal activity on or near property? If so, were any additional security precautions implemented by the property owner or management to deter crime?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the restaurant owner or management failed to provide adequate security, the victim may elect to seek justice and pursue legal claims for his injuries.

Based upon its long, extensive, and successful experience in handling negligent security cases against property owners in the State of Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed.
