Local News

Timothy Hill, a 38-year-old father of three, was reportedly shot and killed inside a Chevron gas station Monday night, July 4, 2016.

WSB-TV 2 News reports, the fatal shooting “started as an argument over a parking space…at a Chevron gas station on Flat Shoals Road in DeKalb County.” Following the initial parking lot dispute, police told WSB-TV, “the shooter followed [Mr. Hill] into the store and shot him.”

Our Legal Take

Gas station patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the gas station and whether this tragedy may have been prevented.

  • What security measures, such as surveillance cameras and security patrols, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
  • Were any attempts made by gas station staff to call police at the start of the initial dispute?
  • Was the owner or management aware of any reports of prior criminal activity on or near property and, if so, were any additional security precautions implemented to deter future crime?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the gas station owner failed to provide adequate security, the family of Timothy Hill may elect to seek justice and pursue legal claims for his wrongful death.

Based upon its long, extensive, and successful experience in handling negligent security cases against property owners in the State of Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed.
