A fatal motor vehicle accident tragically claimed the life of 63-year-old James Gibson of Fortson, GA Thursday, January 31, 2019.

In an update, Ledger-Enquirer.com reports that “Gibson was eastbound on River Road approaching Willett Drive as a city truck driven by a city employee steered…from the driveway at 7501 River Road about 8:25 a.m. to travel westbound.” The report goes on to say “[t]he front of Gibson’s [car] collided with the center of the truck’s left side.”  According to Ledger-Enquirer.com, “[t]he city driver, 72, told police that both directions on the roadway were clear and no vehicles were approaching when he suddenly saw the [Gibson’s car] after entering the roadway.”

Our Legal Take

As the details of this tragedy continue to develop, and if the driver of the municipal vehicle is found to be at fault, the family of James Gibson may elect to file civil claims for his wrongful death.  Based upon its experience and success handling motor vehicle claims in Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that the Gibson family should retain an experienced personal injury firm to protect their interests and ensure an unbiased investigation. Photographs of the roadways and vehicles involved and a review of surveillance footage from nearby businesses or properties, if any exists, will need to be performed immediately before any evidence is damaged or destroyed.
