19-Year-Old Injured in Fox Den Apartment Shooting. Was this a Security Failure?

Local News

A shooting at the Fox Den Apartments in Augusta reportedly left a 19-year-old woman hospitalized Tuesday, December 27, 2016.

According to WRDW 12 News, the young victim “was a guest at an apartment in the Fox Den Apartments when an unknown female began shooting at a group of people at the apartment.” The victim was apparently transported to Augusta University Medical Center with mutiple gunshot wounds. Her current condition has not been released.

The apartment complex was reportedly the subject of a prior shooting investigation in February 2013, per Augusta Chronicle reports.

Did negligent security contribute to the shooting of this young woman? We represent individuals and families who have suffered a tragic loss or injury as a consequence of negligent property security. Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a legal avenue for justice and claims for substantial compensation in Georgia, or call now for a free consultation with out legal team: 706.494.2800.

Our Legal Take

Apartment complex residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the property and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • How did the shooter gain entry to the property? What access controls and security measures, such as gated-entry, fencing, surveillance cameras, bright lighting, and security patrols, were in place and working at the time of the shooting?
  •  Were any additional security precautions implemented by the apartment complex owner or management to deter crime, following prior media reports of gun violence?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security, the victim may elect to pursue legal claims for her injuries.

Based upon its long, extensive, and successful experience in handling negligent security cases against property owners in the State of Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed.
