Negligent Security? Our Legal Take: Forrest Kibler Killed in Statesboro Apartment Shooting

Did negligent security contribute to the tragic death of young Forrest Kibler? We represent families who have suffered the loss of a loved one as a consequence of negligent apartment security. Read Our Legal Take to find out if Mr. Kibler’s family may have a legal avenue for justice and claim for substantial compensation.

Local News

25-year-old Forrest Kibler was reportedly shot and killed at the Park Place apartment complex in Statesboro Friday, November 4, 2016.

According to The Statesboro Herald, the shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. at the “Park Place Apartments…on Lanier Drive, just south of the Bypass.”

The Park Place complex was the subject of prior shootings in 2014 and June 2016, according to  Statesboro Herald and WALB reports. Mayor Jan Moore apparently addressed the reported criminal activity on property following the death of Mr. Kibler:

“It is clear that there is an ongoing issue of serious, deadly criminal activity in Park Place apartments. In addition to constant patrols and police presence in the complex, the city has met with representatives and unit owners within Park Place and made suggestions that only owners can carry out such as private security on the property, surveillance cameras, fencing, putting up a gate to monitor entry, and increased lighting.”

Our Legal Take

Apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the apartment complex and whether this tragic loss of life may have been prevented.

  • How did the gunman gain entry to the apartment complex? What security measures, such as gated-entry, fencing, surveillance cameras, bright lighting, and security patrols, were in place and working at the time of the shooting?
  • Were any additional security precautions implemented by the property owner or management, following media reports of prior criminal activity, to deter crime?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security, the family of Forrest Kibler may elect to seek justice and pursue a legal claim for his wrongful death.

Based upon its long, extensive, and successful experience in handling negligent security cases against property owners in the State of Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed.
