Could this senseless Thomson convenience store shooting have been prevented, and are justice and compensation available to the victims?

Security measures are in question after “18-year-old Aaryonna Coleman and 17-year-old Tyquerion Steed” were reportedly shot and injured outside “[a] Spee-Dee Foods” Wednesday afternoon, June 27, 2018, according to both wjbf.com and News 6.

Thomson police told The Augusta Chronicle the two individuals were shot in the convenience store parking lot around 3:30 p.m. Both were transported to area hospitals.

A local resident apparently told The Augusta Chronicle “the neighborhood where the shooting occurred is no stranger to crime.”

Could the senseless loss of Mishon Robinson have been prevented, and are justice and compensation available to his family?

Gunfire erupted at an Augusta apartment complex Sunday night, June 3, 2018, tragically claiming the life of 24-year-old Mishon Robinson, according to WFXG reports.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office told WJBF 6, the deadly shooting occurred “shortly after 10:30 p.m. at the Alpine Villas apartments on the 3100 block of Alpine Road.” Mr. Robinson, who lived at the complex with his girlfriend, was transported to Augusta University Medical Center, where he later succumbed to fatal injuries.

Cobb County Police are reportedly investigating a recent string of early morning break-ins at several gas stations along South Cobb Drive. A FOX 5 investigation questions what gas station owners are doing to protect patrons and staff during this alarming crime spree:

“With thieves preying on business owners and customers at gas stations across the metro area, many are left wondering what more can be done to increase security.“

Gas stations are often targets for criminal activity due to (frequently) late hours of operation, accessibility to major roadways, and vulnerable patrons. The National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) warns, “the unique setting allows thieves to catch their victims by complete surprise….But these thefts can be easily prevented if the appropriate precautions are taken.”

Given these risks, gas station owners and managers must take steps to protect patrons and deter any foreseeable crime.

  • Has there been prior criminal activity on or near property? If so, what additional security measures could be implemented to reduce such crime on property in the future?
