Did negligent security contribute to this tragic loss of life? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim’s family may have a legal avenue for justice and a claim for compensation.
A shooting outside CC’s Car Wash in Thomson reportedly claimed the life of Roosevelt Demmons Saturday night, August 27, 2016.
According to WTOC News, the fatal shooting occurred “on Saturday at CC’s Car Wash in Thomson,…around 6 p.m.” Anthony McGahee apparently heard the shooting from his nearby home, unaware his cousin was the victim. Mr. McGahee tells WTOC, the sound of gunfire is “common” in his neighborhood and that the violence “has got to stop.”
Police allegedly have a suspect in custody. They have not yet announced a motive.
Our Legal Take
Patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on premises of the establishment they are visiting. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided at the car wash and whether this tragedy may have been prevented.
- What security measures, such as surveillance cameras and security patrols, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
- Was the property owner aware of any prior incidents of violence on or near the property? If so, were additional security precautions implemented by the property owners or management to deter crime?
By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the car wash owner or management company failed to provide adequate security, the victim’s family may elect to seek justice and pursue a legal claim for his wrongful death.
Based upon its long, extensive, and successful experience in handling negligent security cases against property owners in the State of Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed.
