Local News

What has been reported by AJC.com as a “drive-by shooting” at a Roswell apartment complex has left one man injured.  This incident took place, per news outlets, on Tuesday, June 21, 2016.

According to The Roswell Patch, the victim was “outside Holcomb’s Crossing at 100 Holcomb Ferry Road when he was shot.”  Witnesses apparently noted a “red Ford Mustang…driving around the complex before the shooting.” Media reports indicate one person inside the vehicle opened fire “as the car made an exit from the complex.” The victim was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. His current condition has not been released.

Police have not yet identified suspects or a motive in the shooting.

Our Legal Take

Apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the apartment complex and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • How did the gunman and vehicle gain access to the property? What security measures, such as gated-entry, fencing, surveillance cameras, and security patrols, were in place to protect residents at the time of the shooting?
  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? If so, were any additional security precautions implemented by the apartment complex owner or management company to deter crime?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security, the victim may elect to seek justice and pursue legal claims for his injuries.

Based upon its long, extensive, and successful experience in handling negligent security cases against property owners in the State of Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed.
