Gas stations are often targets for criminal activity due to (frequently) late hours of operation, accessibility to major roadways, and vulnerable patrons.

One South Fulton Shell gas station is attempting to reduce crime and protect patrons by implementing Gas Valet, a full service experience controlled by a mobile app. The station implemented the valet service after a “200 percent increase in slide crimes.” CBS 46 reports:

“Owners at the Shell gas station on Cascade Road have decided to bring the age-old concept of full-service back, but with a twist. Consumers can download the station’s app and create a profile. You then choose your attendant, the type of fuel you’d like and the amount you need. The purchase is registered and an attendant comes out and pumps gas without the consumer even opening their car door. Not only does the app keep you safe inside your vehicle, it also protects consumers from skimming crimes, because you never have to swipe your credit card.”

Gas station patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises of the establishment they are visiting. By law, Georgia property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Could this tragic Albany convenience store shooting have been prevented and is justice available to Mr. Taylor’s family?

26-year-old Michael Taylor was reportedly shot and killed while heroically attempting to stop a fight inside a convenience store Saturday evening, May 19, 2018.

According to WALB 10, two men “were fighting inside [a] Convenience Store in the 1900 block of South Madison Street” when the altercation escalated into gunfire. Police told FOX 31 Mr. Taylor was an “innocent bystander,” caught in crossfire while attempting to break up the fight. Tragically, he succumbed to fatal injuries.
