Negligent Security? Our Legal Take: Man Shot at Atlanta Car Wash

Did negligent security contribute to this car wash shooting? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim may have a claim for compensation.

Local News

A man was reportedly shot and injured at a south Atlanta car wash Saturday, June 4, 2016.

The AJC reports, the victim was shot “at a car wash in south Fulton County…at Old National Highway and Jolly Road.” The victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with injuries. His current condition has not been released.

Police have not yet identified a suspect.

Our Legal Take

Car wash patrons have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the car wash and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • What security measures, such as surveillance cameras, bright lighting, and security patrols, were in place to protect patrons at the time of the shooting?
  • Have there been prior incidents of violence on or near property? If so, were any additional security precautions implemented by the car wash owner or management to deter crime?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the car wash owner or management failed to provide adequate security, the victim may elect to seek justice and pursue legal claims for his injuries.

Based upon its long, extensive, and successful experience in handling negligent security cases against property owners in the State of Georgia, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed.

Security Failure? Our Legal Take: Woman Killed in Union City Apartment Shooting

Did negligent security contribute to the death of this young woman? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victim’s family may have a claim for compensation.

Local News

26-year-old Juwauna Washington was reportedly shot and killed inside her Landings at Oak Hill apartment Friday morning, April 15, 2016.

According to WALB News, “the incident happened around 3:45 a.m. at the Landings at Oak Hill apartment complex on the 4300 block of Flat Shoals Road in Union City.” Ms. Washington apparently suffered a gunshot wound to her right side when a “bullet came in from a window.”

Police have not yet identified a suspect or motive in the shooting, presumably leaving residents concerned for their safety. Per AJC reports, another fatal shooting occurred at the same complex in October 2015.

Our Legal Take

Apartment residents and guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. Given the reported history of gun-related activity on property, The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the apartment complex and whether this tragedy may have been prevented.

  • How did the gunman gain access to the property? What security measures, such as gated-entry, surveillance cameras, and security patrols, were in place to protect residents at the time of the shooting?
  • Following any prior incidents of violence on property, were any additional security precautions implemented by the apartment complex owner or management company to deter crime?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management company failed to provide adequate security, the family of Juwauna Washington may elect to seek justice and pursue legal claims for her wrongful death.

Fatal Security Lapse? Our Legal Take: 2 Killed in Decatur Hotel Shooting

Did negligent security contribute to the deaths of these two young brothers? Read Our Legal Take to find out if the victims’ family may have a claim for compensation.

Local News

Derrick and Johnathon Shields were reportedly killed in a shooting at the Affordable Hotel in Decatur Thursday morning, June 2, 2016.

According to CBS 46 News, the two brothers were fatally shot “at the Affordable Hotel on the 1900 block of Glenfair Road in Decatur,” around 2:00am. Officers apparently discovered the young men “inside a second-floor room,” per media reports.

Police have not yet identified a suspect or motive. The hotel has an alleged history of gun-violence, including shootings reported by media outlets in January 2014 and February 2015.

Our Legal Take

Hotel guests have a right to feel safe and secure while on the premises. Given the reported history of gun-related activity on property, The Murray Law Firm questions the level of security provided to those at the hotel and whether this shooting may have been prevented.

  • How did the gunman gain entry to the second floor hotel room? What security measures, such as bright lighting, surveillance cameras, deadbolts, and security patrols, were in place to protect guests at the time of the shooting?
  • Following any prior incidents of violence on property, were any additional security precautions implemented by the hotel owner or management to deter crime?

By law, property owners in Georgia are required to protect all those legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm.  Should the facts of this matter reveal that the hotel owner or management failed to provide adequate security, the family of Derrick and Johnathon Shields may elect to seek justice and pursue legal claims for their wrongful deaths.
