Could this tragic Augusta gas station shooting have been prevented and is justice available to Mr. McGowen’s family?

An Augusta gas station shooting reportedly claimed the life of 27-year-old Tony McGowan and left 19-year-old Mikeem Jackson injured Wednesday morning, June 13, 2018.

According to The Augusta Chronicle, gunfire erupted outside “[a] Gas Station at 202 East Boundary St.,” shortly before 1:30 a.m. Mr. McGowen was transported to AU Medical Center, where he tragically succumbedto fatal injuries. Mr. Mikeem was transported to University Hospital “with a gunshot wound to his back.” His current condition has not been released.

Three suspects have since been arrested in connection with the shooting, per WFXG reports.

Could this tragic Stone Mountain gas station shooting have been prevented and is justice available to the victim’s family?

A gun fight broke out at a Stone Mountain gas station Wednesday afternoon, June 13, 2018, claiming the life of an innocent bystander, Anthony Cooley.

According to The AJC, officers responded to “the Quick Stop Food Mart in the 1100 block of North Hairston Road,” shortly after 1:00 p.m. Police told WSB-TV 2 an innocent man was caught in the crossfire when “two men shot at each other from separate gas stations” across Central Drive in Stone Mountain. Tragically, Anthony Cooley succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene.

Neighbors apparently told WSB-TV 2 “shootings such as this one are far too frequent in the area and they want more police patrolling.”

Could this unconscionable sexual assault have been prevented and is justice available to the survivor?

Security measures are in question after a man was able to break into a woman’s Jonesboro apartment home Friday morning, June 8, 2018, and sexually assault her.

According to The AJC, the assailant “entered through a window in her unit at Tara Bridge Apartments…and sexually assaulted her around 2 a.m.” WSB-TV 2 reports, the courageous survivor “put up a ferocious fight screaming, punching her attacker and trying to run away.” A neighbor finally “heard her screams and called 911, but the accused rapist got away.”
